so one of my favorite things about a great film is the great music that seamlessly coincides with the visual image and storyline. somehow the marriage of sight and sound evokes emotion that sight cannot create alone. there is a time for silence or simply the sound of the rain or wind, but some of the most memorable movie moments come with a sublimely selected song playing in the background.
it recently occurred to me that my life needed a soundtrack. these are the songs that, were i directing the film of my life, i would want to be playing from invisible speakers in the sky. so i've started creating it.... the soundtrack of my life. the selected songs must do one or both of the following:
1. be associated with an important memory
2. evoke a strong sense of emotion
this is going to be an ongoing process till i'm 100 and unable to point and click on itunes anymore. as long as great music is made, i'll be adding to this list. so here is volume 1 of what will no doubt be an enormous compilation... (volume 2 coming soon.)
1. Bright as Yellow - Innocence Mission
2. Life in a Northern Town -
3. In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel
4. Speed of Sound - Coldplay
5. Yahweh - U2
6. Summertime - Will Smith
7. The Globe - Big Audio Dynamite II
8. Here Comes Your Man - The Pixies
9. Set Adrift on Memory Bliss - PM DAwn
10. Falling Slowly - Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova
what's on your soundtrack?
